Orlando band, In The Middle may be young but they are not ones to be messed with. Marissa and K, both only 18, met in 9th grade and have been creating ever since. K says “After becoming close friends in those couple months, we started with an acoustic version of Man In The Moon sitting on the floor while trying to figure out how to play the piano. Everything we have today came from the song Man In The Moon.” For In The Middle, music had a huge impact on both of their lives. When realizing it, “It was during a time when we started to question our future of taking the traditional path of getting a degree and then a job or to take a much riskier route and pursue a career in music. We laid outside in K's backyard one night and had conversation about this. We mentioned how during the entirety of the conversation we had both been staring at this one star. We started talking about how that star reminded us of ourselves, as it may not have been the biggest or the brightest, but it certainly wasn't the smallest or the dimmest. It was just kind of... in the middle.” Being so young in the business definitely hasn’t been the only struggle for In The Middle. “ Starting out so young meant having to learn a lot on our own. We've taught ourselves pretty much everything we know, from how to play our instruments, to how to book shows, and market ourselves as a band. Being a duo means that two people have to be able to produce a sound powerful enough to match that of a 5-piece band. I'd say that's been the biggest challenge so far. We hope to earn enough money soon to be able to get equipment for backing tracks to use in live sets.” But for the two of them, being a duo is one of high points. “ We know each other so well on a personal, professional, and creative basis, and the way we're able to bounce ideas off each other is incredible. We're really on the same brainwave when it comes to this whether it comes to making music, marketing, or creating good stage presence.” The band really has something for all listeners. From R & B to indie and rock, they range in styles. “Each song has a different genre on this album.” The band will be heading into the studio this July to record their album, The Levels. If you find yourself in the Orlando, the band will be playing a few shows this summer. “July 14th at the BackBooth and July 28th at Bombshells. You can stay updated by checking out our social media links and joining our newsletter.”
